Rayados de Monterrey earned a 4-1 victory over Cancún FC in their first preseason match, played on Sunday, June 21, at Estadio Andrés Quintana Roo.
Lucas Ocampos, Fidel Ambriz, Cristian Reyes and Ricardo Chávez found the back of the net in Matías Almeyda’s first match as Monterrey head coach.
The match was played in four 25-minute periods. Monterrey’s starting lineup featured Luis Cárdenas, Erick Aguirre, Stefan Medina, Carlos Salcedo, Gerardo Arteaga, Fidel Ambriz, Jorge “Corcho” Rodríguez, César Garza, Luca Orellano, Lucas Ocampos and Roberto De la Rosa.
In the opening period, the blue-and-white side created a couple of dangerous chances but was unable to break the deadlock.
At the start of the second period, goalkeeper César Ramos replaced Luis Cárdenas.
Lucas Ocampos opened the scoring with a powerful strike from outside the box to give Monterrey the lead.
A few minutes later, Cancún applied high pressure and equalized with a well-placed shot across goal.
In the 42nd minute, Luca Orellano delivered a corner kick. After a series of rebounds inside the area, Fidel Ambriz fired a left-footed shot into the net to restore Monterrey’s advantage.
For the second half, Esteban Andrada, Ricardo Chávez, Alonso Aceves, Víctor Guzmán, Cristian Reyes, Luis Reyes, Omar Gálvez, Sebastián Rodríguez, Diego García and Aldo De Nigris entered the match as substitutes.
In the 48th minute, Omar Gálvez played a through ball to Luis Reyes, who sent in a cross that Cristian Reyes headed home for Monterrey’s third goal.
In the 62nd minute, Cristian Reyes delivered a corner kick that Ricardo Chávez volleyed into the net to make it 4-1.
With the win, Monterrey takes a positive first step in its preseason preparations and will continue getting ready for the start of the 2026 Apertura Tournament.
