CLUB HONORS HIS LEGEND HUMBERTO SUAZO

26 de November de 2025. 9:36 pm.

Club de Futbol Monterrey experienced an unforgettable day this Wednesday, one that will live on in the Club’s history and in the hearts of the blue-and-white faithful.

Prior to the First Leg of the Apertura 2025 Quarterfinals, the Club held an emotional tribute recognizing the career, achievements, and legacy of Chilean icon Humberto "Chupete" Suazo, a historic player and idol whose mark will remain forever within the institution.

To honor his legacy, the Club carried out three commemorative acts that represent a milestone in how Rayados recognizes its greatest figures.

A STREET BEARING HIS NAME

A street within the surroundings of Estadio BBVA was named in honor of Humberto Suazo.
This space symbolizes his everlasting bond with the Club and with the city that embraced him as one of its own.

THE “WALL OF LEGENDS” IS BORN WITH HIS PLAQUE

In a moving ceremony, a plaque honoring his career, goals, and leading role at Monterrey was unveiled.
This plaque becomes the first on the Wall of Legends, a new space inside Estadio BBVA dedicated to honoring those who helped make the blue-and-white team great.

This tribute represents recognition from both the Club and its fans of the Chilean legend’s greatness.

A BANNER TO FOREVER REMEMBER HIS NUMBER

As part of the tribute, a banner featuring his name and number was unveiled and now hangs from the highest point of Estadio BBVA, serving as a visible symbol of the indelible mark he left on the institution.

This banner will accompany Rayados in every home match, reminding fans of the Chilean striker who turned goals into eternal moments.

Additionally, a tifo was displayed in the north stand of the stadium, depicting Suazo’s iconic celebration—an image that will forever live in the memory of Monterrey supporters.

Suazo expressed his emotion and reflected on the most important moments of his career with the Club:

“It’s a very beautiful moment for me, together with my family, to have something so important recognized—especially as a foreigner who spent almost six and a half years at this institution. It’s something very special and emotional, and I hope it continues this way,” said the legendary striker.

Club Sporting President José Antonio Noriega and Club CEO Pedro Esquivel were responsible for unveiling the street name and the Wall of Legends, representing the institution.

“For me, 2009 and my return in 2010 were two very happy moments, as we won two league titles. Those are the moments that marked me and placed me in the Club’s history,” Suazo added.

Suazo, who officially announced his retirement in October, is remembered for his scoring ability, leadership, and for starring in some of the most glorious chapters in Monterrey’s history.

Known as “The Man from Planet Goal,” Suazo arrived for the Apertura 2007 tournament and changed the course of the Club’s history, playing 255 official matches:
219 in league play, 4 in Copa MX, 26 in CONCACAF competitions, 3 in the FIFA Club World Cup, and 3 in InterLiga.

He scored 121 goals, recorded 64 assists, and won the Clausura 2008 Golden Boot with 13 goals.

His impact went far beyond statistics. Monterrey’s golden era cannot be understood without him. With his goals and leadership, Rayados captured league titles in Apertura 2009 and Apertura 2010, as well as the historic CONCACAF Champions Cup three-peat in 2011, 2012, and 2013—achievements that cemented his status as an eternal idol.

More than a footballer, Humberto Suazo is a legend. His goals, talent, and character became identity, pride, and joy for entire generations. Today, Club de Futbol Monterrey celebrates his legacy as one of the greatest of all time.

Thank you, “Chupete.” Forever Rayado.
