Rayados de Monterrey had a dream month in August in Liga BBVA MX and, together with Sergio Canales, were recognized as the best of the month.

With four consecutive victories against León, Mazatlán, Necaxa, and Puebla — earning 12 points, with 13 goals scored and 6 conceded — Monterrey stands out as the top team of the Apertura 2025 in August.

In addition, with 17 total goals, Rayados are the best attack in the tournament, and the fourth-best defense, with just 8 goals conceded in 7 matches. With 21 points, they also sit in third place in the competition’s Fair Play table.

The Spanish midfielder was recognized as Player of the Month. In the 4 matches played, he scored 5 goals, logged 366 minutes, completed 157 passes, took 9 shots on target, delivered 12 crosses, and won 10 offensive 1v1 duels.

Sergio was also honored for his Olympic goal against Necaxa at Estadio BBVA — the seventh in Monterrey’s history and chosen as the Goal of the Month in the Apertura 2025.

With his 5 goals in August, Canales reached 38 goals in total, climbing to 23rd place in the club’s all-time scorers ranking, tying Juan Antonio Flores Barrera and Juan González.

Notably, with his hat-trick against Puebla, he became only the second Spanish player to score three or more goals in a Liga BBVA MX short tournament — the last being Carlos Muñóz 27 years ago, who scored four in a single match for Puebla.
