RAYADOS BEATS URAWA AND ADVANCES TO THE ROUND OF 16 OF THE CLUB WORLD CUP!

Rayados and the blue-and-white fans are in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup!

Monterrey defeated Urawa Red Diamonds 4-0 in the third match of the Club World Cup, played at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, California.

With this result, Rayados qualified for the Round of 16 of the competition in second place in Group E with 5 points. Inter Milan defeated River Plate 2-0 and finished in first place with 7 points. The Argentines earned 4 points and Urawa did not earn any points.

Monterrey will face Borussia Dortmund of Germany, which finished first in Group F, in a match to be played on Tuesday, July 1, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The blue-and-white team started the game looking for the opponent's goal and, with brilliant plays by Nelson Deossa, German Berterame, and "Tecatito" Corona, took a commanding lead.

Alfonso Alvarado had the first chance of the match with a header that crashed off the crossbar.

At minute 18, German Berterame started a counterattack, reached the edge of the area and shot at goal, but the ball was blocked by the Japanese defense.

"Tecatito" assisted Berterame, who shot across the goal and scored the second goal for Rayados.

Now it was "Tecatito" who struck the ball from mid-range and volleyed it into the net for a spectacular goal.

In the second half, Domenec Torrent's men looked to score more goals and the score changed until the last play.

Ricardo Chavez received a pass from "Tecatito" at minute 49 and shot on goal, but the ball crashed into the opposing goalkeeper.

Minutes later, Germán Berterame took a cross shot that ended up in a goal kick.

In the 84th minute, Roberto de la Rosa received a pass from German Berterame, but his shot was saved by Urawa goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa.

Minutes later, Thiago Santana of Urawa sent the ball into the back of the net, but after reviewing the play on VAR, the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

To close out the game, German Berterame scored his second goal of the game with a sweeping shot, securing his team's place in the Round of 16.

Monterrey will now travel to Atlanta, Georgia, where they will face Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, July 1, at 7:00 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
