Monterrey and River Plate played to a 0-0 draw on Matchday 2 of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup this Saturday at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.

Rayados started the match with an attacking mindset and solid defensive organization, similar to their tournament opener against Inter Milan, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The first chance for Monterrey came in the 10th minute through Lucas Ocampos, who fired a low shot that was caught by goalkeeper Franco Armani.

A few minutes later, Sergio Canales tried his luck from outside the box, but Armani once again denied the attempt.

Rayados kept up the pressure and created a couple more chances in the final third, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Esteban Andrada delivered a solid performance, stopping River Plate’s attempts on goal multiple times in the first half.

In the second half, Domènec Torrent’s side pushed for a win at the Rose Bowl but couldn’t break through the Argentine defense.

In the 70th minute, Andrada made a spectacular diving save to deflect a powerful shot by Mastantuono, resulting in a corner kick.

Torrent looked to add more attacking options by bringing on Roberto de la Rosa and Johan Rojas.

In the 82nd minute, Sergio Canales took a corner kick that was cleared by River Plate’s defense.

Esteban Andrada was once again crucial, coming off his line to block a powerful close-range strike from Miguel Borja.

Monterrey will now face Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds this Wednesday, June 25 at 7:00 p.m., in their final match of the Group Stage.

Rayados will aim for a victory and hope for favorable results to advance to the Round of 16.
