Sergio Canales, one of the most recognized Spanish soccer players in recent years, is the new player of Rayados as of this Monday, July 24. 

The midfielder and Spain international comes to Rayados from Real Betis of Sevilla, a club that belongs to LaLiga, the highest category of Spanish soccer.

Canales, who is 32 years old and was born in Santander, Cantabria, northern Spain, signed a 3-year contract with option in one more with Club de Futbol Monterrey. 

Canales made his debut with Racing Santander in 2008 in a LaLiga match against Osasuna, and in the following season he had his soccer breakthrough. 

After receiving offers from various clubs in England and Spain, Sergio joined Real Madrid in 2010, where he was coached by Jose Mourinho and won the Copa del Rey in the 2010-2011 season. 

After a year with the club, the midfielder played for other Spanish clubs such as Valencia and Real Sociedad. 

Canales arrived in 2018 at Real Betis, a club with which he won the Copa del Rey in the 2021-2022 Season.

With his outstanding performances in Real Betis, he was called up to the Spanish National Team to participate in the qualifying matches for Euro 2020. 

The Spanish National Team had called him up from the youth categories. With the U-17 National Team he won the U-17 European Championship in 2008 and the XXXV Atlantic Cup in 2009. 

In 2023, Sergio was called up to participate with the Spanish National Team in the UEFA Nations League, a competition in which he won the championship. 

Based on OPTA statistics, Canales is the midfielder who created the most goal scoring options in the last two LaLiga seasons, with 121, 10 of which were assists for goals.

In his professional career at different clubs, he has scored 68 goals.

Canales joins Rayados to be part of the squad that will seek the highest goals in the Apertura 2023 Tournament and the Leagues Cup 2023.
